Golden Barrel Cacti grows in pale yellow during summer. They come in globular clusters when young and becomes solitary as they grow. Mature Golden Barrel Cacti are said to grow as much as 3 feet in diameter and their ribs and spines become more pronounced in the process.
Golden flowers also bloom on the crown of this species but, only after 20 years. Unfortunately, the Golden Barrel Cactus in display has not reached 20 years so no flowers were visible at the time.
In the picture below, the mature ones (two pictures in the left) has little resemblance to the young ones (two pictures on the right). The young ones comes in cluster and the ribs and spines are not that prominent. After it matures, the spines grow and becomes light yellow and even white in color. The spherical shape is more pronounced and the crown is visible.
